Measuring and analyzing the impact of indicators of health services in the Human Development Index for Iraq (2005-2015)

Abstract

      Health sector is one of the significant sectors affected humans’ lives, It is considered one of the most important indicators of human developments in together with education and income factors. This research is divided into three main portions. The first is about the conceptual aspect of health services and human developments. The second part dealt with analyzing the reality of indicators of health services in Iraq. The influences of health services on the human developments index in Iraq during the study period were investigated in the last part. The hypotheses of the research have proved by the obtained outcomes. It has noticed that the developments in the health services reflect positively on the human development index in the country. The study showed that there is an significant correlation between the indicators of health services and the human developments index. The explanatory power of the variables of study (R2) ranged between (0.615 and 0.834) indicating that (61-83%) of the changes in the human developments can be caused by changes in health services. It can be seen that there is a reversible relationship between the infants and under-five mortality and maternal mortality and the human development index. Whereas, there is a direct proportional between expenditure on health services and life expectancy on the one hand and the human development index on the other.
